OLD BUSINESS:

Horsefest held January 21-22/06 was a great success, good clinicians, videos etc.. well worth attending. Margo Shallcross, Bill Eash & Jeanne Harford.

Halter classes may start to use score sheets. AHA presented. Some thoughts: presenting champion mares & stallions as a highlight. Dates for Regionals are June 13-17/06. Sunday is a travel day.

NEW BUSINESS:

Dian Deal informs us that there are no Community Shows in Texas. Presented several sample of Arabian Community Shows - must have over 60% Arabian participation (Half Arab, Anglo Arab). Can either be a one or two day show. AHA
will keep tract of winners. Points do not crossover for Nationals. Discussed it as being a “mini-show” & keep Open Series intact. Dates & cost to be presented at next meeting.

RODEO & STOCK SHOW: Jeanine Pegg-Hundley

This Sunday, Feb. 12th Jeanine will be bringing her horse Keepsake to the Stock Show & Rodeo to introduce the population to the Arab Horse. Jeanine has been doing this service for the Arabian Horse for many years.

NOTES OF INTEREST FROM REGIONALS: Margo Shallcross

There is a “Black Stallion Literacy Program” which is geared to promote reading to Grades 3 & 4. Every child gets the first book & when they have completed some assignments they then are given the video. As the big finale the 4th
graders are taken into an arena where they are introduced to the Arabian horse. It costs $8.00/child to support this effort. They have presented horses to ~4,000 school children in Arkansas. It is hopefully coming to Texas.

The President of AHA is very actively trying to present Arabs to other breeds.

Thought for next meeting: pick a date to honor our volunteers.

Next meeting March 6, 2006.

Meeting adjourned.
